Issues
Budget
Our city is facing a $700k deficit in our budget. Hard and thoughtful decisions must be made in order to keep Auburn solvent and to maintain our bond rating. This does mean making cuts while maintaining a high level of services to the public. We need to work smarter-taking advantage of technology, reducing waste and finding more efficient operations. We also need to be creative in finding new revenue streams without damaging Auburn's character. I promise to continue to be practical in reducing city spending and open minded with new sources of revenue streams.
Public Safety
I am a proponent of public safety. I advocate for both police and fire departments in our budget. We must be certain that there is enough funding for the level of staffing to keep our city safe. The council will be hiring a new Police Chief in the coming year. It's vital to maintain the relationships between our law enforcement officers and the public. We must also remain vigilant with fire protection and prevention. As a councilmember I will work to keep and improve levels of service.
Economic Development
I believe in striving for a robust business community within Auburn’s city limits. We are the Endurance Capital of the World, but we are so much more than that. While growth can be beneficial, I recognize that when growth occurs, it must be done without sacrificing the beloved character of Auburn. We want to attract and keep businesses who not only provide services and goods to the community, but also operate with the community at heart. As councilwoman, I will continue to work with business and commercial property owners, listening to their needs and find ways to partner with our Chamber of Commerce, our Business Districts and our non-profits to grow awareness and opportunities to shop local.
